Government Funded Programmes

Its plaine sailing with government funding available

There are a number of government funded programmes offering financial assistance to those seeking to gain qualifications whilst in employment or to help people gain the qualities and skills they need to increase their employability.

  • Get Ready for Work - Vocational Matters (for unemployed 16-17 year olds)
    Get Ready for Work (GRfW) is a pre-vocational programme, specifically designed for 16 –17 year olds, and aims to prepare young people for the world of work.
  • Skillseeker Programme (open to 16-19 year olds)
    The Skillseeker programme is designed to give young people the opportunity to gain a qualification whilst in full-time employment or training placement and is open to 16-19 year olds.
  • Training for Work (for unemployed people aged 25 or over)
    Training for Work is a government initiative aimed at getting unemployed people into sustainable employment. If you are 25 years old or over and unemployed, you may be eligible for free training.
  • Modern Apprenticeship Programme (open to employed people of any age) 
    Modern Apprenticeships are flexible and adaptable qualifications, which can be delivered through on-the-job-training and assessment, college based training or a combination of both to suit employer needs. Modern Apprenticeships are open to employed individuals of any age.
  • Job-focused Courses
    James Watt College offers a range of job-focused courses, which are designed to provide training directly related to jobs that are available locally. Courses are designed to provide students with the specific skills required to work in a certain area of industry.
