Supported Learning Policy

James Watt College is totally committed to providing the highest quality of education and training opportunities for students with additional support needs. We strive to operate a policy of positive integration throughout the college facilities.

Access and Facilities

Accommodation needs and access for students with additional support needs is constantly under review across all college sites.

Extended Learning Support

Extended learning support is a service provided by the college. It gives help for learners who may have a particular difficulty or additional support requirements and aims to ensure that they have the best chance of success on their course.

Various types of support are available at all levels from Intermediate 1 to HND, including:

  • Dyslexia screening
  • Sign language facilitators
  • Loan of specialist equipment e.g. laptop, spellchecker, voice recorders, magnifiers, orthopaedic chairs or specialist furniture
  • Specialist software, including enlarging/screen reading technology and dyslexia support software
  • Scribe / reader support in class and/ or for exams
  • Study skills workshops
  • Extra time
  • Brailling for visually impaired learners
  • Additional guidance
  • Assistance with Disabled Student Allowance applications.

The college has

  • Lifts with low level buttons and audible floor identity system
