Making the most of student life - James Watt Student Association
Being a student means much more than just education and training. The college also has an active and lively Student Association, set up to help students make the most of their studies and also enjoy themselves in the process! The Association arranges social events, trips abroad, fund-raising and campaigns on issues affecting student life.
Membership
Membership of the Student Association, which is affiliated to the National Union of Students (NUS), is voluntary and those who choose not to be members will not be unfairly disadvantaged. National Union of Students (NUS) Website
Student Presidents
Each year, the students elect two part-time Student Association Presidents for the two areas covered by the college - Inverclyde and North Ayrshire. Last years Association was coordinated by Siobhan Carroll the elected Student President for Inverclyde, and Sharon Rennie, the elected Student President for North Ayrshire. This years elections will take place in early September and two new Presidents will be elected.
Both Presidents are based in their respective Student Support Centres, on a full-time basis, at the Finnart and North Ayrshire campuses, and are also available at the Waterfront and Largs campuses.
The Student Presidents campaign with and
on behalf of learners, and aim to involve learners
in the life and work of the college. Campaigns are
run to raise awareness, increase ‘Respect for All’
and raise money for worthy causes.
The college has a healthy and lively Student
Association. Social events provide an opportunity
for respite from all the hard work and study that
being a student involves.
Throughout the year your elected Student
Presidents, alongside the class representatives
elected from each class, make sure your view is
heard. They are here to listen to you and help
make your time at college as memorable and
worthwhile as possible. Let your voice be heard!
