- The HNC Social Care, PDA in Leadership & Management, PDA in Health & Social Care Supervision are all recognised by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) as a requirement for registration for care workers and managers respectively in most areas of Social Care.
- The HNC Social Care involves a work placement making up the practical elements of the course. This will be for a minimum of 60 days at two days per week.
- There are a variety of delivery options available – full-time, part-time, day release, open and distance learning.
If you choose to study Social Care at the college you will gain the skills and knowledge required to work in a variety of care settings and circumstances. In addition to the underpinning theory, a strong emphasis is placed on practical skills, which you may gain through a work placement in a social care setting.
A career in social care is a job like no other. It’s a career that can give you a key role in another person’s life. Social care workers provide practical help and support to individuals and families in times of crisis. They empower service users, assisting them to make informed choices which will improve their lives. They make difficult decisions and, at times, enforce the law.
Employment opportunities arise through local councils, voluntary, charitable and private agencies and involve working closely with a range of support organisations including the NHS, and both the voluntary and private sector. Working links with the education service, probation service, police and many other agencies across government are also important.
